Grooming the cat

Listening to Villa-Lobos' Bachianas Brazilieras, I groom an aging cat, at 18 too old and inflexible to reach more distant parts of his anatomy. He grooms what parts he can as I patiently do the rest, and stops from time to time to bite at my hand when I tackle a particularly matted tangle with the comb. It's clear as he purrs along with the music that he's not attacking me, but ineffectively trying to help me do what he can no longer do for himself.

Wish my little canine furballs-with-dreadlocks exhibited such grace...the cooncats were pretty good about it all, deeming such attention as simply their due. I miss them.
